On beginning before everything is certain

在一切尚未确定以前开始

Dear reader,

There is a version of beginning that looks decisive from the outside. The name is settled, the plan is complete, and every future step appears to have been waiting in its proper place.

This is not that kind of beginning.

I Editorial starts while many things are still becoming clear. Perhaps that is precisely why it should start now: not as evidence that every answer has been found, but as a place where better questions can accumulate.

We will write about the self and the world around it. We will notice objects, cities, relationships, systems and choices. Some pieces will arrive fully formed. Others will remain closer to the moment in which they were noticed.
